Educational Opportunities Program
The Educational Opportunities Program has been in existence at Oregon State University since 1969. We provide support for students of color, older than average students, students with disabilities, single parents, low-income students, and students who have been rurally isolated. When the EOP was created there were only 48 students. We now have over 550 students, and 1400 students have graduated from Oregon State as members of EOP. Our graduates have gone on to achieve many of their goals. Our graduates are judges, lawyers, doctors, college professors, sales reps, counselors, social workers, teachers, and the list goes on and on.
We provide the following services:
-
Help through the admissions process
-
Orientation for all new students
-
Academic, personal, and financial aid advising
-
Courses to help review or fill in gaps in math, reading, and writing
-
Free tutoring provided by upper division and graduate students
-
Help with finding jobs, writing resumes and cover letters, and getting internships.
Student Support Services
The SSS department is housed in Waldo Hall at OSU and has a competent, knowledgeable staff dedicated to assisting students and committed to helping them achieve academic success. SSS students are each assigned an advisor, with whom they meet on an on-going basis. In addition to meeting one-on-one with students, staff members offer workshops to participants, help arrange tutoring or mentoring, and arrange cultural enrichment outings several times throughout the year.
