With the new online database, you will be able to request notetakers and recruit your own notetakers. After registering for services with the Disability Access Office (DAS), your classes will appear along with the services that you are eligible for. Please read the following information carefully. Contact the Coordinator of Notetaking Services at (541) 737 - 4098 (Voice), or email Notetaking.Services@oregonstate.edu if you have questions or need additional information. Please remember that DAS does not provide notetakers for ALS (Academic Learning Services) classes, PAC (Physical Activity Courses), labs, and recitations. Please speak to the Notetaking Coordinator for exceptions to this policy. Once your services have been reviewed and approved, the DAS office will contact you with any questions regarding your requests. A notetaker will then be assigned for each class. Please note: It is important that the student checks the website regularly for any changes with your notetaking services.
In order to receive notetaking services, students need to:
- Enter schedule and requests on DAS Online Services.
- Check notetaking services regularly for any changes that may have been made with your requests.
- When matched with a notetaker, students are encouraged to develop and maintain a working relationship with the notetaker, either in person or via email.
- Students need to sign the Notetaker/Student Agreement within the second week of classes in order to continue to get notes.
- Students must attend class in order to receive notes, unless the absence is disability related which needs to be verified.
- Students need to communicate with the notetaker and/or DAS about the quality and timeliness of the delivery of the notes.
- Students are required to sign an invoice that verifies the notes were received. If the student did not receive quality notes or the delivery of the service was of poor and inconsistent quality, please contact the Notetaking Coordinator with concerns.
- Students are encouraged to contact the Notetaking Coordinator with any questions or concerns regarding the service.
You are matched to a notetaker in the DAS database:
- You will receive an email notifying of the assignment, which will include the notetaker's name and email address. It is very important that you contact your notetaker within the first week of the term.
You are not matched to a notetaker in the DAS database:
- When you sign into DAS Online Services, your notetaking services status will be displayed. There will be a link for self-recruiting a notetaker called, "I Have My Own Notetaker." By going to this link, you will be able to enter the email address of an individual that you have recruited to be your notetaker. An email will be sent to the prospective notetaker informing him/her that they have been requested to be a notetaker. Please remember that the notetaker must be enrolled in the class. Please note: Students that self-recruit have been found to be the most satisfied with the quality of the notes. If you have any questions about recruiting your own notetaker, please contact the Notetaking Coordinator.
- By the Friday of the first week of classes, or one week after your requests have been made, DAS will send a Faculty Recruit letter to the professor if no one has signed up to be a notetaker for this class. An employment opportunity announcement will be sent to the professor to read to the class. Anyone that is enrolled in the class, and is interested, should contact the DAS Office.
